I was born and raised in Hawaii, and I’m consistently surprised by how the influences from my home subtly appear in my own work. As a freelance drummer, my job was to blend into various musical situations. I initially brought that same mentality to the table as an artist...blending in without saying anything unique. It was an eye opening experience when I realized that I was allowed to put myself into my art. Fireflies, a reggae-inflected bedroom pop song, is the result of that realization.
lyrics
Lyin down in my bed
Thinkin bout the times we once had
Lookin at your eyes, lookin at your face
Your hands are on my waist
Keep it low, keep it slow
You are mine, I am wild
Fireflies in my eyes
Keeping me so damn high
You and me, all my life
Way down way down
You are my sin, creeping in
Leaving all the scars, just making
A home on my face, home on my heart
Tellin me we coulda been art
Keep it low, keep it slow
You are mine, I am wild
Fireflies in my eyes
Keeping me so damn high
You and me, all my life
Way down way down
Sweetest kiss, oh oh
Fireflies in my eyes
Keeping me so damn high
You and me, all my life
Way down way down

I've only recently discovered Morcheeba, but I absolutely love the balance between dark electronic programming and the soaring vocals. I also appreciate the focus on writing songs, not simply vamps. Bad Mime
